Ted
Forrest is a fascinating dichotomy at the poker table.
With his slightly comb-overish hair and placid smile, he
looks about as threatening as an accountant. You see him
sitting there and you almost take him for granted, he
looks so darn nice. But then he starts raising and
raising and raising. And winning. Forrest has
been a consistent winner in all areas of poker for
almost 20 years.
Biggest
Poker Accomplishment:
Won 3 WSOP bracelets in 1993, in 3 different
events (7-Card Stud, Razz, and Omaha 8 Or Better). Only
2 other players have ever won 3 bracelets in the same
year.
Playing
Style: An
aggressive, attacking player likely to turn over just
about anything. Forrest comes from the school of poker
that preaches playing all kinds of hands in order to
outplay opponents on the flop and subsequent streets.
Strengths:
Ted is a very tricky player who puts a lot of stock in
his reads. And well he should, since Forrest is one of
the best in the world at putting an opponent on a hand.
Ted is also a master at shorthanded tables.
Weaknesses:
Ted’s extra curricular activities have sometimes
gotten the best of him. He has an admitted weakness for
the Craps table, and it is purported he has lost
millions of dollars over the years in this pursuit.
Tournament
Winnings: Just
over $3.5 million to date.
The
Bottom Line:
Ted is also a very active proposition gambler, taking
part in some bizarre bets over his career. Some notable
ones include:
- Ted
accepting a bet to run for 6 straight hours on the
UNLV track in 120-degree heat. He won $7,000 but
nearly died from heat exhaustion.
- Ted
accepting a bet that he couldn’t bench-press 225
lbs. fifty times over a 24 hour period. This time,
Ted lost $10,000 and permanently injured his right
arm.
