Poker Dictionary - Terms And Definitions

Made Hand – Hand like a straight or flush, that cannot improve further.

Maniac – Highly aggressive player, capable of playing any two cards at any time.

Marginal – A somewhat weak hand that probably shouldn’t be played but might hold up and win.

Mario Lemieux – Pocket 6s, named after the Pittsburgh Penguins legend.

Minimum Buy-in – The minimum amount of money or chips with which a player can enter a game.

Midlife Crisis – Pocket 4s.

Misdeal – Mistake by the dealer, resulting in the cards being shuffled and dealt again.

Miss – To fail to make a hand, such as missing a flush card on the river.

Motown – J 5 in the hole, in tribute to the immortal Motown group the Jackson Five.

Move All-in – The act of betting all of one’s chip in a given hand.

Mouse – Timid, conservative player.

Multiway Pot – Hand in which a number of players at the table are involved.

Middle Pair – Making a pair with the middle denomination card on the flop. For instance, holding a pair of kings on a flop of A K 5.

Middle Position – The middle positions at the poker table in relation to the button, generally the fourth, fifth and sixth seats.

Muck – To fold, discard or throw away a hand. The muck also refers to the pile of folded cards during a hand.
