Hand – What a player
has (by way of cards) is referred to as their hand. For
instance, a player might say they are “getting lots of
big hands.”
Heads-Up – Situation
in which poker is played one on one between two players.
When a tournament gets down to the final two players the
action is heads-up.
High Roller –
Somebody who plays for extremely large sums of money.
High-Society Chip –
Poker chip worth $100. One rack of high-society chips is
worth $1000.
High Stakes – Games
where big money is wagered, usually with limits of
$200-$400 and higher.
Hit a Card – To catch
a card that makes a player’s hand and wins the pot.
Holding – The cards a
player has in the hole, in any poker game.
Hole Cards – Cards
dealt face down to each player.
Hot – When a player
is catching good cards and winning more than their share
of pots, they are said to be running hot.
House – The card room
- whether underground or in a casino – that hosts a
poker game and takes a rake.
