Poker Dictionary - Terms And Definitions

Early Position – To be in one of the positions to the immediate left of the dealer button.  An early position player has the disadvantage acting first in all subsequent betting rounds.

Edge – Holding an advantage in a particular hand.

Elimination – When a player runs out of chips during a poker tournament they are eliminated.

Endgame – When a poker tournament gets down to the final few players.

Equity – The amount of money a player can expect to win in any given pot. If there is a $200 pot and the player’s hand has a 25% chance of winning, their equity is $50.

Etiquette – Refers to the proper way for players to conduct themselves at the poker table, i.e. like gentlemen.

Even-Money – When a player has a roughly 50% chance of winning a pot.

Expectation – The amount of money a player can expect to make through making the same play in the same situation repeatedly over time.

Exposed Card – A card accidentally dealt face up by the dealer. When this happens, a re-deal commonly occurs.
