Capped Term used in
limit games to describe the maximum number of bets
allowed. When the maximum number of bets have been
placed, the betting is said to be capped.
Case Card Fourth
and final card of a particular rank i.e. the fourth
king.
Cashing Finishing
in the money in a poker tournament.
Cash Out When a
player leaves a cash game and converts chips into cash,
they are cashing out.
Chasing Going after
a long shot card to complete a hand.
Check When a player
elects not to bet, they check.
Check-raise To
check with the intention of putting in a raise after
another player bets. Players often check-raise when they
have a big hand.
Cheese Piece of
junk hand.
Chip Round, clay
token used as a cash currency in poker games.
Chip and a Chair A
term used to describe a player that is extremely low on
chips.
Chop When two
players have the same hand and they split up the pot. A
chop also refers to two players making a deal for the
prize money when they get heads up.
Cold When a player
is running badly and catching very few cards, they are
said to be cold.
Cold Call Calling
bets without having any money previously invested in the
pot.
Collusion Two
people at a table secretly playing together to gain an
advantage. Collusion also involves signaling between
players and employing rigged deals.
Colour Up When
chips of smaller value are traded in for larger
denominations in the latter stages of poker tournaments.
Community Cards
Cards dealt face up that can be used by any player to
make the best hand.
Completing a Bet
Raising the bring-in bet in Stud games to one whole bet.
Connectors
Holdem hands containing two unsuited consecutive
cards i.e. 89 or QJ.
Conservative A
tight player that only plays premium hands.
Continuation Bet To
make a bet on the flop after raising pre-flop, whether
the flop helped or not.
Counterfeit When
the board cards reduce the value of a players
holding. For instance, having pocket 5s on a board of
8-8-10-10-A.
Cowboys Pocket
kings.
Crabs Pocket 3s.
Cripple When a
player loses most of their chips in a big hand, they are
crippled.
Crying Call When a
player makes a call knowing they probably dont have
the best hand but are compelled by pot odds.
Cut Dividing the
deck into two sections. The player sitting to the right
of the dealer usually performs the cut.
