Backdoor Draw – When catching two cards is required to make a hand, for instance catching two suited cards on the turn and river to make a flush.

Bad Beat – An unlucky occurrence when one big hand loses to another – like a full house losing to four of a kind.

Bankroll – Amount of money that a player has at their disposal.

Battle of the Blinds – When the action folds around to the two blinds. This is a common occurrence at short-handed tables.

Belly Buster – A straight draw in which an inside card – a card in the belly – will complete the straight. For instance, a player needing to hit a 6 to make the 4-5-6-7-8 straight.

Bet – The act of putting money in the pot.

Bet in the Dark – To make a bet without looking at one’s hole cards.

Betting Round – Betting that occurs after a new card is put out on each street.

Big Blind – Position on the table two to the left of the dealer. The big blind is forced to put in one betting unit for every new hand.

Big Chick – Having AQ in the hole.

Big Slick – Having AK in the hole.

Bitches – A slang term for pocket queens.

Blank – A card that doesn’t help anybody’s hand.

Bleeding Chips – When a player is losing a lot of chips they are bleeding chips.

Bluff – A bet made by a player when they have absolutely nothing in their hand.

Board – The face-up - community cards - that each player can use to make their best hand.

Boat – Slang term for a full house – three of a kind with two pair.

Bring-in Bet – The forced bet that starts the action in Stud games, usually about Ό of the full bet.

Broadway – Holding a straight to the ace – 10-J-Q-K-A.

Broke – A player who has no money.

Bubble – The last spot of a tournament that doesn’t pay out money – finishing 11th in a tournament that pays 10 spots. The bubble is the worst position to finish.

Busting Out – When a player is eliminated from a game, they have busted out.

Button – The position of the dealer at the table (when there is a real dealer a white disc designates the button). The button acts last and is the best position at a poker table.

Bullets – Pocket aces.

Burn – Act of discarding the top card of the deck before dealing.

Busted Draw – A drawing hand that doesn’t get there. For instance, having a flush draw that misses on the turn and river.

Buy a Pot – Making a large bet with a weak hand in order to steal a pot.

Buy-in – Amount of money it costs a player to enter a designated poker game or tournament.
