Limit Texas
Hold’Em (A
$2 - $4 Game)
1.
First Betting Round (Pre-Flop) -
Each player receives two cards face down - his
or her hole cards. At this round, there are two
players who must put money in the pot (post
blinds) - the small blind (who puts in $1) and
big blind (who puts in $2). The two blinds are
situated directly to the left of the dealer.
Starting to the left of the big blind, the other
players can elect to not play the hand (fold)
call (post $2) or raise (to $4). In Limit
Hold’Em, three raises are allowed on each
street from the amount of the initial blind ($2
- $4 - $6 - $8). When there have been three
raises, the betting is said to be capped.
2.
Second Betting Round (The Flop) –
After burning a card, the dealer puts out three
community cards face up. This is called the flop.
The small blind is the first player to act, with
the option to check or bet the amount of the small
blind ($2). Each subsequent player has the choice
of folding, calling $2 or raising to $4. Two more
raises are allowed, to $6 and $8 (at this point
the betting is capped). The dealer, or button, is
the last player to act. The button is the best
position at a poker table.
3.
Third Betting Round (The Turn) –
Another card is burned, and then the dealer puts
out a fourth card face up. This is called the
turn. The same betting format as previous rounds
follows, except all betting values are doubled now
($4 - $8 - $12 - $16).
4.
Fourth Betting Round (The River) –
Another card is burned, and then the dealer puts
out a fifth card face up. This is called the
river. The same betting format as the Turn round
follows ($4 - $8 - $12 - $16).
5.
Who Wins? The Showdown – Any players that
have remained in the hand until the river must now
show their hand. The bettor or last raiser must
show first. The player with the best five-card
combination of hole and community cards wins the
pot (players can also use all five board cards if
that makes their best hand). When two players have
the same hand, the pot is divided evenly among
them.
