Five
Card Draw ($2 - $4 Game)
In
five card draw, there are typically three
betting rounds (one drop or draw), but some
games institute four betting rounds (two drops
or draws). The following explanation will use a
two betting round 5 card draw game as an
example.
1.
First Betting Round (Before The
Draw) – Each player is dealt five cards face
down. There is a button (the player to act last
and the best position on the table) and a small
blind and a big blind. The small blind posts $1
and the big blind posts $2. Starting
to the left of the big blind, the other players
can elect to not play the hand (fold) call (post
$2) or raise (to $4). In 5-card draw, three
raises are allowed on each street from the
amount of the initial blind ($2 - $4 - $6 - $8).
When there have been three raises, the betting
is said to be capped.
2.
Second Betting Round (The Draw)
– On the drawing round, players can throw up
to three cards away in exchange for up to three
new ones. This is called the draw, with all new
cards being dealt face down. The betting limits
now double at this round. The betting begins
with the player seated directly to the left of
the button. This player has the option to check
or bet the amount of the big blind ($4). Each
subsequent player has the choice of folding,
calling $4 or raising to $8. Two more raises are
allowed, to $12 and $16 (at this point the
betting is capped).
3.
Third Betting Round (After The
Draw) – Each player’s hand is now complete.
The same betting format as the Draw round
follows.
4.
Who Wins? The Showdown – Any
players that have remained in the hand until the
river must now show their hand. The bettor or
last raiser must show first. The player with the
best five-card poker hand wins the pot. When two
players have the same hand, the pot is divided
evenly among them.
